Coils turn orange and bright
As the hot air softens the night
My collar once frozen stiff
Has melted onto my shoulders:
100% cotton hands
Undo knotted strands
Of tensile muscle and nerve
Until the skeletal locks unlatch,
The calcium creeps,
And the marrow meanders
From the matrices of my bones.
I can never fear heights
For my thoughts fall deep
As I sink into my chair
And slowly fall asleep...
